Eskdale Show 2006

Fell Dales Association Eskdale Show

140th Annual show Saturday 30th September 2006

This years show was held on the 30th September 2006 in the field near to the King Gorge IV pub. The Show had all the usual classes and stands in the field and enjoyed a fantastic weather day with the field bathed in sunshine. The days before the show had been wild and wet and the worry was that it would be a wash out but thankfully this was not the case.

The show attracted a large crowd to the many marquee, classes and events and the day was enjoyed by all. More information and results will be posted here as and when available in the mean time we have a collection of photos, movies and clips for you to enjoy.

Including the less than glamorous arrival of BBC Radio Cumbria who got their bus stuck before providing the normal superb service throughout the day!

2005 Eskdale Show

The show is always held on the Last Saturday in September on the field by the king George IV .

The show this year attracted just under a thousand through the gates in this its third year at the more accessible King George IV showfield.
Quite rightly judged one of the finest small shows in Lakeland this, the 139th, had perfect late September weather.
Ensuring the show runs like a well-oiled tractor were secretary Jenny Porter and treasurer Celia MacKenzie.
As well as the traditional sheep judging, industrial tent, hound trails, sports races, wrestling, fell racing and dog and terrier classes, the show also showcases vintage and veteran vehicles.
And it was in this area that a bold Canadian army flag showed where Bridgefoot owner Bob Sanderson had his 1943 Dodge weapons carrier on show.

The vehicle, complete with ’de-activated’ machine gun trained on the show crowds, was from the Canadian unit attached to the Queens Royal Regiment of Rifles that went ashore on Juno beach at 8.30am on June 6 at the start of the D Day invasion of Europe.
Bob, a keen member of the Military Vehicle Trust, took the truck back for a return tour of France last year.
This year’s show president was James Sanderson of nearby Dalegarth Hall. James and his wife Shirley have been regular show supporters for more than 50 years.
Although Cumberland Fell Runner’s Brian Thompson won the seniors race, first lady back was Vanessa Temple, who took time out from working at La’al Ratty to run up and down the mountain before hurrying back to work.
In the industrial tents, secretary Mary Brown praised the high standard of entries which saw Linda Pritt from Bootle take the top Rose Bowl prize. Miss R Jenkinson took the silverware in the preserves section while Bertha Johnson won the top prize in breads and pastries. Vicki Duns had the best exhibit in the cakes. The trophy for best in handicrafts was won by Mary Slater.
